1. Thank you!

Thanks to so many of you for showing up for the teleclasses on Self Hypnosis and Embodied Presence, and thanks to those of you who sent us feedback on the classes. Very much appreciated!

Three and a half years ago I wrote a newsletter on the ten principles of Seishindo Self Hypnosis. I've reworked that article quite a bit since then and present it again now, as a way of helping you experience the peace of mind and sense of well-being that resides within you!

2. Ten important principles of self hypnosis

These principles are meant for you to muse over and "play with" in your mind.

This is one of my newsletters you'll do well to read slowly, as you take frequent deep breaths and pause between concepts.

1) Change out of your current frame of mind by changing the way you use your body and your senses.
This usually requires a change of posture, a good deal of calm breathing, slowing down in general, and the spreading of your awareness.
Why don't you take the time to do that now.
Notice your posture and change it if you would like, breathe deeply as you slow down your pace, and take in the sounds and feeling of your environment as you read these words. And then take one more deep breath for good measure!

Self hypnosis is a NATURAL way of changing your awareness of the present moment, and the awareness of yourself as part of the present moment.

Entering into a generative self induced trance is facilitated by slowing down your breathing and your internal dialogue, and by becoming more aware of what is happening NOW.

Self hypnosis dissolves your current reality so that a new reality can emerge.

Self hypnosis is not meant to do away with your problems.
As you change the way you think about what you perceive to be a problem, the "problem" will begin to show up as an opportunity to learn and change.

2) Love, accept, and cooperate with all that you are.
"There is nothing amiss with you that a deep sense of self love and support will not heal."

Develop a sense of trust and cooperation with your entire self. If you don't respect all of your self, it will be difficult to induce the cooperation that's necessary for change to occur.

3) Enter into a flow state that is more spontaneous than any process that can be maintained by your cognitive mind.
You need to let the thoughts of your cognitive self wander as if you are "fully awake and dreaming." It is from this state of "active dreaming" that solutions will evolve. Solutions do not come from "you," solutions arise from the presence you exude in the moment. Solutions "show up" as you realize you're being called on to pay attention in a new way.

4) Create a pleasant and respectful conversation between the parts of yourself that are involved in the struggle for and against change.
Accept and honor the behavior, beliefs, mood, and or interests of your entire self in order to achieve rapport with your entire self. No matter the quality of your current way of being and performing, you are always doing the best you are currently capable of.

5) A generative state of self hypnosis signifies responsiveness to your intrapersonal needs.
When your whole self is not able or willing to accomplish what your cognitive self desires, this is a clear signal that are you not sufficiently aware of or honoring some important intrapersonal needs.

Begin to reduce the differences in beliefs and desires between the self that wants change and the "other self" that seems to be inhibiting change. There is a deeper wisdom to this inhibition process, and it is quite important to honor this wisdom.

6) Become intimately aware of your body and its ongoing feedback loop with your cognitive self.
Feel all of the tiny reactions your body has to the thoughts that pass through your thinking mind. Do your best to relax any parts of yourself that you feel tension in.
Breathe calmly, relax your facial muscles, your shoulders, your chest, your solar plexus, your stomach. Notice the tiny rocking movements in your torso. Notice how certain thoughts tend to restrict the overall sense of flow in your system.
Change will occur as you more and more learn how to let go, and trust in the moment.

7) Consider every thought, physical sensation, and desire you are having, to be of equal importance.
It is often awareness and acceptance of the "little things" that wind up having the greatest impact on how you feel and what you believe to be possible.

8) Be with, stay with, and welcome every thought, feeling, and sensation.
This is crucial. Often we try to run away from what we think is "incorrect" or what we feel to be painful. At other times we try to hold onto a thought or feeling that we believe to be positive or "good." Rather than either running away from or holding onto, simply stay with and welcome every thought, feeling, and sensation passing through you. All of what you are experiencing is transitory and will change.

9) It is the thinking mind that discerns "right and wrong" "good or bad" "perfect and imperfect" that creates your problems.
The idea in self hypnosis is to experience the mind that comes prior to thinking. To experience the mind that does not judge right from wrong in an attempt to "improve" who you are and what you do.

Rather than attempting to understand the "how" and "why" of who you are and what you do, simply do your best to notice all of the physical sensations and thoughts you are having, and let all of your experience pass through you.
There is no problem to be solved. Only be in the moment.

10) Notice your "other" self.
As you calm down, little by little you will come more and more in touch with your "somatic self." This is the part of your self that regulates your heartbeat, your breathing, the activity of your nervous system, and many other processes that play a major role in determining your physical and emotional well-being. The more you allow your thinking mind to run your life, the less you will be aware of the sustenance and sense of well being your somatic self can offer you.

As you slow down and sense your somatic self, you'll realize you have a powerful source of wisdom and healing residing within you, that you're often not in touch with.

Create an equal partnership between your thinking mind and your feeling mind, and you'll find yourself living a much more fulfilling life.

You already possess everything you need to live the life you truly desire. Everything you want and need is waiting for you to notice it is already there. Take the time to slowly read through these ten principles several times, and you'll begin to realize a better life awaits you. After that, bless yourself by actively cultivating the process of self-hypnosis on a daily basis. Over time you'll uncover and recover more of who you truly are, and you'll rejoice in your discoveries!

Peace, and a deep sense of well-being resides within you.
Your somatic self is waiting to welcome you home!
